Stephen Colbert, Herman Cain Train Missing Traction In South Carolina

Stephen Colbert, Herman Cain Train Missing Traction In South Carolina.COLUMBIA, SC - Not many South COLUMBIA, SC - Not many South Carolina residents boarded Stephen Colbert, commanded Cain train.

A few thousand people - 1 percent of the vote - went to Herman Cain at the primary on Saturday, despite the efforts of the comedian in turn a joke of the primary results on Saturday, urging fans to vote by former CEO godfather, whose name remained on the ballot.

Colbert's trumpeted as an alternative presidential candidate to vote for him in his Comedy Central program through last week. A super PAC set up to aid efforts, including a commercial air teasing that Cain is "a strange Washington is not even running for presidents ... send a message. On January 21, the vote Herman Cain."

But despite the positive reception on the campus of the College of Charleston on Friday, when Colbert held a joint meeting with Caine, college students interviewed said that they and their friends did not take the joke seriously enough to move forward in their places of vote on Saturday.

"I personally saw it as a gag," Seth Whisnant, 24, a student at the University of South Carolina who voted for Ron Paul.

Kropski Steve, 26, a law student at the University of South Carolina, said he believes most people will be supported by Colbert of Cain as a joke.

"I cannot imagine people [actually vote for Cain], but never underestimate that there are some people who did."

Lindsey Lipscomb, 20, a student at the University of South Carolina who voted for Newt Gingrich, here in Colombia this afternoon, said he did not think Colbert specialists was "wise" because it could take votes away from viable candidates.

"It's just going to take votes and change the margins for all others," he said, adding that he believed that Cain had been a "great candidate" with "a lot of excellent points."

One student and supporter of Ron Paul said he believed that the only students POLITICAL would vote for Cain are people who do not have a strong preference first.

"Some people may have only taken seriously because they do not care about other candidates, do not care to vote for any of them," said Chetna Mehra, a young man of 21 years at USC who voted for Ron Paul. "But I hope no one took him seriously."

South Carolina GOP Primary Results

South Carolina GOP Primary Results.Willard Mitt Romney (born March 12, 1947) is an American businessman and politician. He was the 70th Governor of Massachusetts from 2003 to 2007 and is a candidate for the 2012 Republican Party presidential nomination.
The son of George W. Romney (the former Governor of Michigan) and Lenore Romney, Mitt Romney was raised in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and later served as a Mormon missionary in France. He received his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University, and thereafter earned Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration joint degrees from Harvard's law and business schools. Romney entered the management consulting business, which led to a position at Bain & Company, where he eventually served as CEO and brought the company out of crisis. He was co-founder and head of the spin-off company Bain Capital, a private equity investment firm that became highly profitable and one of the largest such firms in the nation. The wealth Romney accumulated there would help fund his future political campaigns. Very active in his church, he served as ward bishop and later stake president in his area. He ran as the Republican candidate in the 1994 U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, losing to incumbent Ted Kennedy. Romney organized and steered the 2002 Winter Olympics as head of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee, and helped turn the troubled games into a financial success.
Romney was elected Governor of Massachusetts in 2002, but did not seek re-election in 2006. He presided over a series of spending cuts and increases in fees that eliminated a projected $3 billion deficit. He also signed into law the Massachusetts health care reform legislation, which provided near-universal health insurance access via subsidies and state-level mandates and was the first of its kind in the nation. During the course of his political career, his positions or rhetorical emphasis have shifted more towards American conservatism in several areas.
Mitt Romney, was probably never much of a lock that traditional media seems to believe, but the results of Saturday in South Carolina, the principal remains came as a surprise.

Newt Gingrich, rising from the ashes policy for the second time with two performances lively debate this week and snatched a victory unlikely in the Palmetto State.

With 40 percent of the vote to Mitt is 27 years old, and almost all reports speaker, Newt won big and turned liquid Republican presidential race on its head again.

Just last week, Romney seemed likely to win all three initial competition, a scenario that could put him on the road relatively clear in the appointment.

But with Thursday's announcement that Rick Santorum actually won Iowa, followed by the results today, Romney is now a front-runner who has lost two of the three.

The result was a quick turnaround extraordinary fortune Gingrich, after it has ended up the top three in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Was then described his candidacy as Newt had granted him his campaign could be over for good tonight if he failed to turn in a solid performance.

This in turn has such a performance, and as such, the quest to represent the Republican Party against President Barack Obama in November is quite far from over.

This marks the first time that three different Republican candidates have won the first trio of the competition in what was an unpredictable race from the beginning.

Since 1980, every winner in South Carolina GOP primary has gone on to win the nomination, but if Gingrich can continue this series is far from certain.

Romney is by far the most formidable resources and financial organization, giving him a big tip of Florida, which holds its January 1, 31, and beyond.

Santorum finished third and fourth of Ron Paul in South Carolina. Candidates face off in a debate again Monday night in Tampa. Stay tuned.

Stephen Colbert: Thank You, God Bless You and God Bless Citizens United

Stephen Colbert: Thank You, God Bless You and God Bless Citizens United.TV presenter, comedian, writer and presidential candidate Stephen Colbert would be the addition of the latter to its long list of qualifications, candidate and the presidency of the United States of America South Carolina anyway.

"I am proud to announce that I am forming an exploratory committee to lay the foundation for my possible candidacy for president of the United States of South Carolina," said Colbert amplifiers audiences up on their late night comedy show Central "Colbert Report".

Of course, no real United States of South Carolina. And even if Colbert were looking to run in the January 21 primary, the deadline for the primary election in South Carolina is long past, so that Mr. Colbert has to resort to write-ins.

Rather Colbert's announcement was a trick in his account of long standing to bring attention to the problems of Super PACS - independent expenditure committees with the ability to collect unlimited funds - which are so frequent in this election cycle.

Colbert began his show by inviting the former Federal Election Commission Chairman Trevor Potter, playing the role of Colbert's personal lawyer, or, as Colbert also described his "spiritual advisor of money." Colbert and Potter in a dialogue about the do's and don 'ts of Super PACS, and Colbert asked Potter if he could join the race and maintain control of their super-PAC.

"No ... cannot run and execute a SUPERPAC, which would coordinate with you," said Potter. "You can make it run by someone else."

At this point, Stewart invited to co-star Jon Stewart the night out in the set. Colbert Potter asked if it would be nice if it transfers control of his SUPERPAC Stewart, although the two are business partners. Joked that they were starting a bagel shop and travel agency combination called "De Schmeer to eternity."

"Being business partners do not have the coordination, legally," said Potter.

Bit like Colbert and Stewart continued to participate in a "transfer of power", and then Mr. Stewart and Mr. Potter each left the set and Colbert made his "announcement", balloons fell, and the audience went wild.

Increased SUPERPAC began in 2010 when the Supreme Court ruled that the independent expenditure for political purposes protected under the First Amendment, in the landmark case of Citizens United against the Federal Election Commission. The irreverent segment offers a thoughtful critique of these new groups are not legally allowed to coordinate with the candidates they are supporting, but are often run by former staff members, highlighting the strong ties that bind these powerful candidates organizations.

"With their help, and possibly with the help of some outside group that I am coordinating with, we can explore taking this country back," proclaimed Colbert before going to a commercial break. "Thank you, God blesses you and God bless the United Citizens."
