Women Loses Kids And Parents In This Christmas Fire.
STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - Fire swept through their Victorian house advertising executive along Connecticut's coast, killing three children and their parents.
Madonna Badger and a known man were able to escape from the house, which was engulfed in flames on Christmas morning, Stamford police sergeant. Paul Guzda said. However, three daughters of Badger - a twin 10-year-old and 7 year old - died in the fire, Guzda said.
He said parents of Badger, who were visiting for the holidays, also died in the fire.
Neighbors said they were awakened by the sound of screams, shortly before 5 am and rushed out to help, but could only watch in horror as the flames devoured the big house and surprised the survivors, the wounded were taken home .
Badger, an advertising executive in the fashion industry, is the founder of the city of New York-based Badger and the Group of Winters. A supervisor at Stamford Hospital said he was treated and discharged on Sunday afternoon.
Property records show he bought the five-bedroom oceanfront home $ 1.7 million last year. The house is located on Ship pan Point, a wealthy district that juts into Long Island Sound.
The well-known man who also escaped the flames was a contractor who was doing work at home, Guzda said. He also was hospitalized but his condition was not disclosed.
"It's a terrible day, terrible," said Mayor Michael Pavia reporters at the scene of the fire. "Probably not a bad day is Christmas in the city of Stamford."
The police took Badger husband, Matthew Badger, of New York to Stamford Sunday morning. Badger parents lived in Southbury, Connecticut, Guzda said.
The firefighters knew there were other people at home, but could not reach them because the flames were too big and intense heat, too, said Acting Fire Chief Antonio Conte, his voice cracking with emotion.
"It is never easy. That's for sure," he said. "I've been in this job 38 years, no ... an easy day."
Conte said firefighters do not yet know the cause of the fire and probably will not get hints for a few days until the fire chiefs can enter the structure and perform an inspection.
On Sunday afternoon, the roof of the house had collapsed largely blackened.
A neighbor, Sam Cingari Jr., said he was awakened by the sound of screams and saw that the house was engulfed in flames.
"We have heard this cry at 5 am," he said. "The whole house was on fire and I mean on fire."
Cingari said he did not know their neighbors, who said he bought the house last year and renewal.
Charles Mangano, who lives nearby, said his wife woke him and alerted to the fire. He ran out to see if he could help and saw a number of fire trucks in front of the house.
"I heard someone yell" Help, help, help me! "I started running to my house," Mangano told The Advocate of Stamford.
He told the newspaper that he saw a barefoot man wearing boxers and a woman from being removed from the home. The outside temperature was then below zero by the National Weather Service.
She said: "My whole life is there," said Mangano. "The two were obviously in a state of shock."
Stamford, a city of 117,000 inhabitants, about 25 kilometers northeast of the city of New York.
Badger was the creative mind behind big advertising campaigns for major fashion brands, including iconic brand of underwear ads for Calvin Klein Marky.
Bred in Kentucky, Badger began his career working as a graphic designer in the art department of Esquire magazine. Before starting his own company, worked as art director for several magazines and CRK, advertising agency in-house designer for Calvin Klein.
Badger and Winters worked with Proctor & Gamble, Cover Girl, A / X Armani Exchange, Emanuel Ungaro and Vera Wang, among other high profile companies. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday
