Oakland Raiders Fire Coach Hue Jackson After 8-8 Season

Oakland Raiders Fire Coach Hue Jackson After 8-8 Season.Hue Jackson went from out of the playoff picture out of a job in just over a week.

The Oakland Raiders fired Jackson Monday, parting ways with him after a 8-8 season.

The move was made by just hired the executive director Reggie McKenzie, who offered little other than to say it was time to go in another direction. Thus, the franchise is now in search of his seventh coach since 2002.

"I want my man," said McKenzie, a former director of football operations in Green Bay. "No disrespect to Hue Jackson, but it's a new era and we want to start over."

First choice to replace McKenzie Jackson is widely regarded as Packers assistant Winston Moss, who oversees the inside linebackers and served as assistant head coach Mike McCarthy. Moss, 46, is a former linebacker who played for the NFL Tampa Bay, the Los Angeles Raiders and Seattle.

"I would not bet against it," said John M. Wooten, executive director of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, which is close to both McKenzie and Moss. The alliance is an advocacy group for the hiring of NFL minority coaches and front office executives.

"Winston is ready, and that is that I think Reggie wants," said Wooten. "Winston is very high on our list. I had a very good conversation with Coach Mike McCarthy a few weeks ago and he feels the same way. Winston grew up in the responsibility of every year. "

Jackson, who was fishing for more power in the organization, did not return text messages Tuesday, but said CSNBayArea.com he was surprised by the movement, and he does not believe McKenzie is lift people.

"It will empty the place," said Henry Jackson Site Wofford. McKenzie "wants to bring in his own guy. No jobs are safe right now."

McKenzie, 48, who played linebacker for the Raiders LA 1985-88, said the new coach will have the autonomy to hire its own staff of assistant coaches. At a news conference Tuesday, the new GM was flanked by Raiders owner Mark Davis, son of the late Al Davis.

"We just want a winner, a guy we feel can lead this team into a new era," said McKenzie.

Under Jackson, the Raiders played their way into the driver's seat AFC West, but lost four of their last five games and finished behind the division champion Denver. Did they beat San Diego in week 17, the Raiders would have won the division and hosted a playoff game. Instead, they were blown out at home, 38-26. It was the season of Raiders ninth consecutive time, without a winning record and playoff.

Jackson has been sharply criticized his players after that loss and basically said he needed to take an even greater role in decision-making to turn around the franchise.

"I will take a stronger hand in the team, the whole organization," Jackson said last week. "There is no way I'm going to feel like I feel today a year from now I promise you. There is no doubt. Defensively, offensively and special teams. I do not feel like that no longer exists. This is a joke. ... Yeah, I'm going to take a hand in everything that happens here. "

Brief tenure of Michael Jackson has left a major imprint. He gave two draft picks to pry high-quarter losing Carson Palmer in Cincinnati Oakland Jason Campbell suffered a broken collarbone late season. The Raiders gave up their first-round pick in April, and a second conditional versatile in 2013. The Raiders were 4-5 with Palmer as their input, and the former USC quart completed 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

The Raiders committed 163 penalties for 1,358 yards, setting records in the NFL in both categories, and their defense recorded worst franchise in touchdown passes allowed (31), yards per carry (5.1), passing yards (4,262) and total yards (6201).
