Elizabeth Smart, Rescued Kidnapping Victim, Gets Engaged.SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A woman kidnapped at knife point at the age of 14 and held captive for nine months is getting married.
A spokesman for 24 years, Elizabeth Smart said she got engaged last weekend and will probably get married in the summer.
No detail about the groom-to-be has been disclosed. The spokesman says the smart plans to keep his personal life private.
Smart father, Ed Smart, told The Associated Press his future son-in-law is a "handsome young man." Ed Smart said he is happy for her daughter and hopes she has a happy life.
Onetime itinerant street preacher Brian David Mitchell, was convicted in 2010 of the 2002 Smart kidnapping and sexual assault. He was serving a sentence of life imprisonment.
