Carlos Zambrano Should Feel At Home With Ozzie Guillen

Carlos Zambrano Should Feel At Home With Ozzie Guillen .Miami Marlins excitable Ozzie Guillen has to have a calming influence on striker Carlos Zambrano.

The plan may sound crazy, but I say this for the Marlins: They have become harder  to ignore.

His last move was approved yesterday offseason, when they acquired Zambrano Chicago Cubs' poor performance by right-hander Chris Volstad. The Marlins believe Zambrano's career can be resurrected to join his colleague and good friend Guillen, new team.

"All the players I spoke with articulated to me that Charles had actually violated their trust," said the new Cubs president of baseball operations, Theo Epstein. "When we're talking about physical altercations with peers repeatedly when talking about physical dating on the computer, it is very difficult to get that player back to the clubhouse and trust."

"Ozzie has a long and close relationship with Carlos," said the president of baseball operations Larry Beinfest. "We went with Ozzie in this case. The end result was Ozzie really, really felt confident in this agreement."

In Chicago, Zambrano was a three time All-Star, but fell out with his teammates, management and referees. The final blow came on August 12 when he was ejected from a game, cleaned his locker, he spoke of retiring and was suspended without pay.

In Miami, Beinfest expect the best, but prepare for a repetition.

"It would be difficult for me to say that everything will be perfect and free of incidents, given the history of man," said Beinfest. "It can happen that there is an expansion or two. But Ozzie is very sure he can help."

The meetings on the mound should be entertaining. While managing the Chicago White Sox, Guillen underwent sensitivity training. On the north side of town, Zambrano attended sessions of anger management. In 2010, Zambrano had a verbal altercation with then-teammate Derrek Lee after Guillen had dinner that night.

"Look for Zambrano to pitch well in 2012," wrote former White Sox outfielder Jermaine Dye. "I have to see Ozzie in Miami."

As part of the trade, the Marlins will pay $ 2.55 million $ 18 million salary this year Zambrano. The Cubs are responsible for the rest, but were willing to pay the bill for not being optimistic Zambrano relations could be arranged.

Volstad has a 32-39 record with 4.59 ERA in 11 big league seasons. Originally the first round of selection Marlins in 2005 . He is eligible for arbitration for the first time this winter, and his contract situation he appealed to the Cubs.

"The calculation was done for us: Do we not spend that $ 18 million in a season of Charles and try to make it work with him here," said Epstein. "In the best case, even if it did work, he'd be leaving at the end of the year as a free agent. Or, if you were going to have to spend that money anyway as a cost amount, you'd better get to spend on a man of 25 years of age, we can put into our rotation and control of the three seasons? That made sense. "
